You get to a stage
It's a critical age
You're a victim of all that you've said
You're no longer one
With the moon and the sun
And there's fear swimming round in your head
Never favoured by fate
For fame it's too late
Was it the book that you never read
You thought you'd be king
Or some greater thing
Not in midlife crisis instead
You're living a scene
From some long ago dream
People talk but you don't hear a sound
You stumble across
Some memories you lost
But don't recognise what you've found
Look at you there
Some kind of Square
But the hole that you dug is round
You thought you'd be free
And wisdom you'd see
Not in midlife crisis be bound
It’s not always fair
But something is there
And it let's you see all the way round
The chains fall off and while
People still scoff
Their words they just fall to the ground
You don’t count the cost
Of the friends that you’ve lost
But value those that you’ve found
And you’re starting to see
In midlife crisis you’re free
To surprise or even astound.
